pages: james patterson

Monsoon season in AZ has officially begun! It POURED today. Which means its time for some light reading!  I just finished both Honeymoon + the new one, 2nd Honeymoon .  My favorite Patterson so far is Guilty Wives.  Sounds like a cliche desperate housewives wannabe, but its actually a great mystery. I highly recommend Guilty Wives if you haven't read Patterson yet.  Next up is Swimsuit. These books are perfect for reading by the pool or on the plane!

Relaxed, Rejuvenated & (hopefully) Ready???

FINALLY!

Behold- the Mac Genius gods have granted my greatest wish- a new MacBook! One with all of the keyboard letters intact.  One without ants crawling through the keys.  One without Jimmy-Johnsish-greasy fingerprints all over the trackpad.  I can finally type using correct punctuation and the letter "u!"  Did I mention the keys light up so I can type in the dark? Brilliant.  Yep, I've seen an untouched, virgin MacBook before.  But this one is special..it's just not the same until its your own.  Max helped buy it for me for my bday!  ANNNyway, I'm so excited to start updating the blog again.  A lot has happened since February 28th.

A brief timeline:

  • Max passed S3 with flying colors!  Max > S3. But we already knew that of course.
  • I moved back to AZ & got a "9-5" at the mall.  Whatever... its fun, it makes me feel independent, and it keeps $ in our bank account.  Did I mention its Ferragamo? More on that later.
  • Max came home for a quick break in April.  We celebrated his 25th bday with a sweet visit from momma Kim!
  • We also celebrated 1 year of being engaged by treating ourselves to a couples massage at the Montelucia Joya spa. Heavenly!
  • I enjoyed Di's 70th bday celebration on a cruise to St Maarten, St Thomas and Nassau on the massive Allure of the Seas!  I also had a small run in with Max in Ponoma Beach for 2 days.  We needed it.
  • All of our wedding vendors (minus the so far non-existent, non-denominational rabbi) are BOOKED! 8 more months. Next project? STDs. (Ew, not actual STDs...Save the dates! obvi!)
Fast-forward to now...

Max takes his S4 FINAL EXAM tomorrow! Poor guy.  He's worked HARD to get to this point.  He's lost a lot of hair, time and sleep, gained a lot of wrinkles, knowledge and debt, but he's there. Finally.  It's safe to say that we didn't get Rossed out of our relationship.  The island didn't break us.  It may have  done the opposite.  Time goes by much faster when I'm not sitting at home like a doormat waiting for Max to return home for a meal.  At this point, I have no regrets about my little hiatus on the island.  I actually miss it on occasion. But let's be honest....I don't miss it THAT much. :)

I can't wait for Max to get back in approx 28 days. The next plan of action involves Max joining the "House for Abandoned & Dysfunctional Children" @ 8608 Sunnyside.  Mom and I refer to her home as the boarding school, since Melvin & I bunk here while poor Pete is working in CA.  Trust me I'm not complaining.  We're definitely lucky...seeming as how I'm 25 and I don't pay rent, don't do my own laundry, and rarely clean the house.  Mom is the ideal caretaker and I try every day not to take advantage of that.  Her folding is impeccable though. And no one can work a Swiffer like she does.  But feel bad for her at your own risk.  She's currently enjoying Cakebread wine & shopping with my sister in the Hamptons.  I can't help but feel a little jealous...I have to work 8 days in a row next week! But I too will see my uncle, aunt & cousin this October for Gma's 80th.  In fact, that's one occasion Max will be ATTENDING! That's right.  Max will be balls-deep in AICM clinical rotations in Miramar, FL by then, so driving 45 min to Boca for the weekend is a legit plan.

Thanks for staying in touch with us, ehhh, Me while I push on through the next month.  I don't even think anybody reads this (except for you Mom, and maybe Kim?!) but I find it therapeutic.  I love to write.  I even miss school... I miss having an intellectual challenge of some sort. Until then though, I have my physical challenge of losing 20 lbs for the wedding. Guess I'll have to 'master' that goal first!  I have the next 2 days off work.  I will probably catch up on neglected maintenance (doctor, vet & hair) appointments.  Oh and Grey's Anatomy.  It makes me remember why I wanted to apply to Ross in the first place. Because of that show. Newsflash to me, It's not a real show, hence I didn't get into med school.  But thank GOD I didn't! I could never do what Max does. He's a machine. It's pretty amazing actually! I can't help but be proud.  Goodnight & namaste!

Sunset Bay

After S3M1, we decided to make a journey to Sunset Bay. It's a rocky beach right off the "highway" on the island. Te Sunset Bay restaurant sits right above the beach, boasting lobster, clams and other delicacies. However, there was no more lobster when we arrived, even though Maz called early to make certain there would be. Typical Dominican service! But we enjoyed Tea Punch (their best version of a run punch) and grilled cheese and honestly the best banana split I've ever had for dinner. We played cards and drank wine and kubuli. Then Max and I took a swim by the shore and found a cool and warm spot where a river met the ocean. Max, will, markus and joe played a drinking game where you basically knock a beer off a stick. Sometimes we have to get creative when we don't have movies, typical bars and games to entertain us. The day was awesome and a great break for Max!! Here are pics from that day as well as from Beach Bash (the semesterly bash where free t shirts and food are abundant)

Semester 3 so far

So I'm accompanying Max on the island until March 19! My first week back wasn't too exciting. I figured since I have to be here anyways, an island with no food, I might as well work on my diet. I've complied with it so far, but I'm starving and can't wait for cheat day tomorrow!

Thoughts:
1. found out yesterday that the water supply here is messed up, and that we won't be able to even brush our teeth with it for another month! Yikes.
2. Just finished my first James Patterson book, Guilty Wives. Kinda sounds lame, but it was an awesome read. I highly recommend it!
3. The beach is perfect! Sometimes you'll even spot a pretty cruise ship like the one pictured.
4. Scrappy is doing well. He's pretty popular nowadays. He has his own Facebook profile and is always updating it. He's the only stray dog I know that can sit, shake, lie down and roll over! Impressive. I haven't seen poor Sandwiches at all since I've been here. Hope she's OK
5. I stumbled upon a new restaurant and like a bored idiot, asked if they needed any help. I stocked for about an hour today, and am returning at 8 am tomorrow. I hope they will pay me LOL. The restaurant is perfect and just what Ross needed. The bar is brand new, the tables will be properly cleaned and nice dishes will be used. They even have the cutest tiki bar and lounge area. Love it

Meanwhile, poor Max is at it again. 7 am wake up call, class 8-12, lunch 12-1, class or library 1-5, gym 5-6, dinner and an episode of Nashville (our fave show right now)6-7:30, and studying with the group 7:30-10:30. He's a medical school machine! So proud of him though. He's incredible!

We are beginning to speak more about the wedding. Still aiming for 12/28/13, and we've already finished the first draft of the guest list. Fun!!

That's pretty much my week 1 update. Thanks for reading!

Light Bulb

*Public Relations Coordinator at Neiman Marcus*

Um, yes please! Dream job, I see you.  Maybe far off in sight, but you're still in sight. Right where I want you! What to do now? I have no idea.

Maybe 1 year of doing absolutely nothing was actually good for me.  Maybe not good for my bank account, or Max, or my poor parents, but I think it was just what I needed to push myself to find out what I like.  What makes me come alive.  Obviously it wasn't medicine! And naturally, I know NO ONE who works at a PR firm.  I don't even have a parents friend friend who works in public relations.  Oh well.  Anyways, my agenda for the next 2 months on the island hopefully will include

-perfecting my Excel/PP skills, maybe learning how to use programs like InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop, adobe, Adobe Flash and Keynote
-rosetta-stoning Spanish
-6x/week gym sessions
-reading
-painting my nails
-laying out
-updating my blog (which will be hard with only 1/2 of a keyboard)
-cooking... ok thats a little much. probably not cooking.

About Me

My photo
From the deserts of AZ, to the rocky mountains, to the caribbean islands, Max and Jenny are world explorers who miss and love their St. Bernard Melvin, who is stuck at home with his Grandma. Melvin probably wont be one of the blogs prominent writers, but i promise he sends his good wishes to our readers. Although our blog won't be the most exciting blog youve ever read, it promises to keep you updated on our daily lives at the beautiful Ross university school of medicine in Portsmouth, Dominica. XOXO Update 7/2013: Since Max is too busy studying to blog, I've decided to take over and let Max guest-blog when he's able to! I'll be sharing my favorite looks, books, finds, splurges and steals, and maybe someday RECIPES... But lets not get overzealous ;)
